Door installation

Door installation in Cheshire and Staffordshire by experienced joiners

TMC Building & Joinery provides door installation in Cheshire and Staffordshire from our base in Alsager. We hang internal doors, glazed doors, fire doors and French doors, trimming each one to fit and finishing it with quality hinges, handles and architrave.

A well-hung door swings freely, closes without catching and has an even gap all the way round. Older houses rarely have square openings, so getting that result takes a joiner's eye and patience rather than a quick fix.

Doors we install

  • Internal panelled, cottage and shaker-style doors in oak, white or painted finishes
  • Glazed internal doors to bring light into hallways and kitchens
  • Fire doors for loft conversions and new rooms, with self-closers where required
  • French doors for extensions and garden rooms
  • Eaves storage doors, cupboard doors and hidden under-stairs hatches
  • New door linings, architrave and skirting to match
  • Handles, locks, latches and hinges fitted and adjusted

If you are converting a loft, building regulations usually require fire-resisting doors onto the escape stairway. Government guidance in Approved Document B explains the rules, and we can supply and fit suitable doors.

Why replace your internal doors?

New internal doors are one of the quickest ways to lift the look of a home. Swapping tired, mismatched doors for a matching set of oak, white or black doors gives every room a fresh, finished feel. Glazed doors can also brighten a dark hallway by borrowing light from the rooms around it.

We often fit doors as part of larger jobs, such as a hallway refresh with wall panelling or a new floor. When new flooring goes down, doors usually need trimming so they clear the new floor level, and we take care of that at the same time.

Our door installation process

  1. Measure and advise. We measure each opening and help you choose door sizes, styles and ironmongery.
  2. Prepare the opening. We check the lining is sound and square, and replace or pack it where needed.
  3. Hang the door. Each door is trimmed to size, the hinges are recessed and the latch and handle fitted.
  4. Finish and adjust. We fit architrave and door stops, then adjust everything so the door closes smoothly.

External and French doors

We fit French doors as part of extensions and garden rooms, where the work is covered by the project's building control approval. If you are only replacing an existing external door with a glazed one, check whether your installer is registered with a competent person scheme such as FENSA, or whether you will need building control approval.

Questions & answers

Door installation FAQs

How long does door installation take?

A single internal door usually takes two to three hours, including hinges, handle and latch. A full house of internal doors can normally be fitted in one to two days.

Can you hang doors I have already bought?

Yes. We are happy to fit doors you have bought yourself. Let us know the sizes before we visit so we can check they suit your openings.

Do you fit fire doors for loft conversions?

Yes. Loft conversions normally need fire-resisting doors on the rooms that open onto the stairway. We can supply and fit suitable doors with the correct hinges and closers.

Will my new doors need trimming?

Almost always. Very few openings are perfectly square, and new flooring can change the floor level, so we trim each door to fit its opening for an even gap all round.

How much does door installation in Cheshire and Staffordshire cost?

We price per door, depending on the type of door, any lining or architrave work and the ironmongery. Get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote.
