Bespoke furniture
Bespoke furniture in Cheshire and Staffordshire, designed around your space
TMC Building & Joinery makes bespoke furniture in Cheshire and Staffordshire from our base in Alsager. From media walls and alcove cupboards to fitted wardrobes and wall panelling, every piece is measured, built and fitted to suit your room, your style and the way you live.
Off-the-shelf furniture rarely fits real homes. Alcoves are different widths, walls are out of plumb and loft ceilings slope. Made-to-measure joinery uses every centimetre of space and looks like it has always been part of the house.

Wall panelling and staircases
Wall panelling adds character and depth to plain rooms. Box panelling suits hallways and dining rooms, tongue-and-groove works well in cloakrooms and boot rooms, and chevron or slatted designs make a bold feature wall behind a bed or TV. Panelling up a staircase, finished with a new handrail, is one of the most striking upgrades you can make to a hallway.
Before we fit panelling we check the walls for damp and level, so the finished panels sit flat and the paint lasts. You can see many examples in our bespoke joinery gallery.
How a bespoke furniture project works
- Design chat. We visit, discuss how you want to use the space and agree the style, storage and finish.
- Measure. We take precise measurements, allowing for uneven walls, skirting, sockets and radiators.
- Build and fit. Each piece is built and scribed to your walls for a seamless, built-in look.
- Finish. We fill, caulk and sand everything so it is ready for painting, or we can discuss decorating as part of the job.
Joinery that works with the rest of your home
Bespoke furniture often goes hand in hand with other work. We can build a larder or utility run to match a new kitchen, fit storage into a loft conversion or finish a panelled hallway with new internal doors. Industry body the British Woodworking Federation has useful advice on choosing quality joinery.

Questions & answers
Bespoke furniture FAQs
How long does bespoke furniture take?
Smaller pieces such as alcove shelves can be fitted in a day. Media walls, fitted wardrobes and full rooms of panelling usually take two to five days, depending on the design.
Do you paint the furniture?
We leave everything filled, sanded and ready for painting. If you would like the painting included, mention it when you ask for a quote and we will discuss the options.
Can you build a media wall with space for a fire?
Yes. We can design a media wall around your TV, soundbar and an electric fire, with hidden cable routes and storage cupboards either side.
What is wall panelling made from?
Most painted panelling is made from MDF, which is stable and gives a smooth finish. Tongue-and-groove and slatted panels can be MDF or timber, depending on the look you want.
How much does bespoke furniture in Cheshire and Staffordshire cost?
Every piece is different, so the price depends on the size, design and materials. We give free, no-obligation quotes after discussing your ideas and measuring up.
